About Wellies & Wax Jackets
British country life, with mud on its boots.
Wellies & Wax Jackets is a place for people who enjoy growing things, getting outdoors and making the most of the seasons. There’s room here for a vegetable patch, a muddy dog, a walk that ends with tea and the occasional very good find for the home.
You don’t need a cottage, an acre of land or a wardrobe full of country clothing to join in. A few pots, a local footpath and a bit of curiosity are a perfectly good start.
What you’ll find here
In Garden, you’ll find practical growing advice and seasonal jobs, including a Crop Directory to help you plan what to sow next.
Food & Growing follows the harvest into the kitchen, from another bag of apples to the last blackberries in the hedge.
Dogs covers life with the animal who brings half the countryside home. Outdoors gives you reasons to step beyond the back door, while Country Living brings the seasons into everyday life.
The W&W Edit is where we consider useful purchases: what to look for, what might earn its place and whether you need to buy anything at all.
Who’s behind W&W?
I’m Hannah, based in Essex. My background includes agriculture, nursery work, dog grooming and dog training. W&W brings those interests together with the things I enjoy about British country life.
I want it to be useful enough to return to when you need an answer, and enjoyable enough to read when you’ve simply put the kettle on.
A word about our content
Practical guides draw on relevant specialist sources. Where an article includes those sources, you can follow the links for further detail. Buying checklists and supplier links aren’t the same as hands-on reviews; we’ll make clear when we’ve personally tested something.
